Constitution
Objectives
To bring together those residents of Canada who are
interested in the study of written communication in
its various forms and processes. To encourage the
interdisciplinary study and teaching of these
subjects.

Membership
Membership shall be open to all who are interested
in the scholarly study of written communication in
its various forms and processes, upon payment of the
required fee.

Dues
Time and amount of payment of annual dues to be
determined by the Executive. The membership year and
the financial year shall be the calendar year.

Meetings
There shall be an Annual General Meeting, usually in
conjunction with the meeting of the Congress of
Humanities and Social Sciences. Notice of meeting
shall be sent to all members at least a month in
advance.

Committees
The Executive shall have the power to establish and
to dissolve committees as the need arise.

Amendments
Amendments to the Constitution shall be made only at
a regular meeting by a two-thirds majority of the
members present. Any amendments shall be presented
in writing by the Executive to the membership at
least a month before the meeting that will vote on
it.

Executive
The Executive shall consist of the immediate
Past-President, President, Vice-President,
Secretary-Treasurer, at least one, but not more than
three, Members-at-Large, and two
Graduate Students, one of whom shall be
French-speaking and the other English-speaking.
- All
members shall be eligible to serve on the
Executive.
- They shall
be elected for terms of two years, renewable for
one additional two-year term.
- The
Executive shall have the power to manage the
affairs of the Association between its general
meetings, this to include: all financial
activities, signing documents on behalf of the
Association, arranging a suitable programme for
the meeting and an agenda for the AGM.
- An
audited financial statement shall be presented
to the Annual General Meeting.
- The
Executive shall keep a list of members which
will be available to all members on request.
- The
Executive shall have the power to establish a
communication system, in any medium, for the
purpose of linking members.
- Minutes
of all General Meetings shall be taken and
distributed to all members.

Nominations
The Executive shall be responsible for
presenting nominations for officers to be elected at
the general meeting. Nominations may be made from
the floor.

Vote
All members shall be entitled to vote at all legally
called meetings. A quorum shall consist of 1/10 of
the membership.
